Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Crescent Head Public School has a proud reputation as a school of excellence in the Creative Arts with acknowledgement by a Director General's Award for Excellence. Our school participates in all the Creative Arts activities organised by the Macleay Educational Community of Schools including the Music Festival, and Spring Into art Exhibition. Our school has a strong tradition in dance and has been involved in the Southern Network Dance Festival since it's inception in the 1990s. The school dance ensemble has successfully auditioned for the State Dance Festival on 3 occasions.

The school choir regularly performs at school and community events and in 2012 was successful in gaining selection to participate in the Schools Spectacular in Sydney. A highlight of 2012 was the selection of Jemima Brooks from Year 5 as a featured soloist at the School's Spectacular. Our school choir has been successful in our audition for the Schools Spectacular for the past 5 consecutive years, which is an outstanding achievement.

The school has a Marimba band, which has performed at many different school and community events. All students , Kindergarten through to Year 6, participate in weekly Creative Arts groups including drama, visual art, fabric and textiles, Aboriginal cultural awareness and multi-media.

A highlight for our Year 6 students each year is the staging of their annual production. Our Year 6 students develop and polish their performance skills in order to shine up on stage in a high quality production of a different musical each year.

Our inclusive school concert each year captivates our audience and showcases the strengths of every single student. It is a true celebration of the creative spirit and allows every student their moment in the spotlight.

Aboriginal art excursion with Richard Campbell

Our students experienced first hand the beautiful artwork of renowed artist Richard Campbell and enjoyed interacting with him and contributing to a major artwork.

Our students chose the motif of a Pelican to depict Crescent Head in the artwork that will be displayed in the community.

A wonderful learning experience
