Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
At Crescent Head Public School students are provided with a broad range of sport and physical education activities. All classes participate in regular Physical Education sessions where fitness, sporting skills development, coordination and movement are the focus. Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 have a dedicated sport session on Monday afternoons and the Stage 2 and 3 classes have sport on Friday afternoons.
Our School provides swimming instruction to develop water confidence for every student from K-6. An elite swimming squad is trained in Term 1 and 4 in preparation for PSSA events. Our school has a history of successes in swimming with many students being selected to represent the school at the North Coast and State level.
In Terms 1 and 4 our senior students take part in surfing and beach safety lessons. These take part at the local Crescent Head Surf Club with the assistance of qualified surfing instructors.
Our School participates in PSSA knockouts in Rugby League, Cricket, Soccer, Netball and Touch Football. Students are given quality exposure to other sports including tennis, AFL and Rugby Union through participation in clinics and in-school programs.
We have physical activity programs for children from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a focus on fundamental movement skills.
