Our Student Wellbeing Policy

Cresecent Head Public School Student Wellbeing Policy

Positive Behaviour for Learning

School Vision Statement

Our shared commitment to learning at Crescent Head Public School is to develop highly engaged students through innovative, quality teaching in a positive and collaborative environment, where high aspirations and creativity and environmental awareness are fostered and students strive to excel.

STUDENT WELLBEING AT CRESCENT HEAD PUBLIC SCHOOL

The Student Wellbeing Policy at Crescent Head Public School is based on Positive Behaviour for Learning. The whole learning community of Crescent Head Public School has been involved in the implementation of this program to ensure that the policy and strategies included are relevant to the specific needs of our students, teachers and parents. In developing the Crescent Head Public School Student Wellbeing Policy, the school community has established a set of shared values and common language that sets out the expectations of student involvement and behaviour. These values are now embedded in all teaching and learning practises and form the framework for all school policy and procedures on Behaviour Management and Student Wellbeing.

Student Wellbeing at Crescent Head Public School now incorporates the Wellbeing Framework for Schools to enhance the implementation of Positive Behaviour for Learning, as follows:

  • The comprehensive and integrated strategy of PBL is in place to support the cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual wellbeing of students in a context of quality teaching and learning
  • Students, teachers, staff and community members have a shared understanding of the behaviours, attitudes and expectations that enhance wellbeing and lead to improved student outcomes
  • Individuals care for self and contribute to the wellbeing of others
  • The whole school approach to PBL ensures that the wellbeing needs of all students are targeted
  • Quality teaching and professional practice is evident in the learning environment
  • The teaching and learning environment celebrates difference and diversity and recognises, respects and responds to identity and cultural background

Behaviour Code for Students

NSW public schools are committed to providing safe, supportive and responsive learning environments for everyone. We teach and model the behaviours we value in our students.

In NSW Public Schools students are expected to:

  • Respect other students, their teachers and school staff and community members
  • Follow school and class rules and follow the directions of their teachers
  • Strive for the highest standards in learning
  • Respect all members of the school community and show courtesy to all students, teachers and community members
  • Resolve conflict respectfully, calmly and fairly
  • Comply with the school's uniform policy or dress code
  • Attend school every day (unless legally excused)
  • Respect all property
  • Not be violent or bring weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol or tobacco into our schools
  • Not bully, harass, intimidate or discriminate against anyone in our schools.

Schools take strong action in response to behaviour that is detrimental to self or others or to the achievement of high quality teaching and learning.

Behaviour Code for Students: Actions

Promoting the learning, wellbeing and safety of all students in NSW Public Schools is a high priority for the Department of Education. We implement teaching and learning approaches to support the development of skills needed by students to meet our high standards for respectful, safe and engaged behaviour.

Respect

  • Treat one another with dignity
  • Speak and behave courteously
  • Cooperate with others
  • Develop positive and respectful relationships and think about the effect on relationships before acting
  • Value the interests, ability and culture of others
  • Dress appropriately by complying with the school uniform or dress code
  • Take care with property

Safety

  • Model and follow departmental, school and/or class codes of behaviour and conduct
  • Negotiate and resolve conflict with empathy
  • Take personal responsibility for behaviour and actions
  • Care for self and others
  • Avoid dangerous behaviour and encourage others to avoid dangerous behaviour

Engagement

  • Attend school every day (unless legally excused)
  • Arrive at school and class on time
  • Be prepared for every lesson
  • Actively participate in learning
  • Aspire and strive to achieve the highest standards of learning

The principal and school staff, using their professional judgement, are best placed to maintain discipline and provide safe, supportive and responsive learning environments. The department provides a policy framework and resources such as Legal Issue Bulletins, access to specialist advice and professional learning to guide Principals and their staff in exercising professional judgement. In this context the NSW Government and the Department of Education will back the authority and judgement of Principals and school staff at the local level.

The School's 5C values form the framework for the Student Wellbeing Policy and are the School's Rules

  • I 5C@CHP
  • I CONTRIBUTE
  • I CARE
  • I COOPERATE
  • I AM COURTEOUS
  • I AM CONSIDERATE
  • I STRIVE TO EXCEL

The Crescent Head Public School Community has worked together to develop these core values and understandings with regard to teaching and learning. These values reflect the new NSW Public Schools Code of Behaviour as well as the Wellbeing Framework:
